Carts to Careers
As an MGA Member, please take advantage of our Carts to Careers Program. Carts to Careers (CTC) is a multi-pronged approach to expanding the food industry’s workforce. The Minnesota Grocers Association Foundation, along with the State of Minnesota, provides tuition support for classes completed with the specific purpose of furthering employees’ current careers or providing educational opportunities for a new career in Minnesota's food industry. We are one of the oldest trade associations in the state, celebrating over 125 years of advancing industry. We have over 300 retail, manufacturers, and wholesale members supporting nearly 1,300 locations statewide. Our member companies employ over 150,000 union and non-union Minnesotans. We actively advance the common interest of all those engaged in any aspect of the food industry as a leader and advocate in government affairs.

The MGA's Basket is Full
Best Bagger Contest
The Minnesota Grocers Association held its 37th annual statewide Best Bagger Contest on Saturday, November 1, 2025. The first-place winner in the competition was Laura Sergeant of Kowalski's Markets, Grand Avenue winning $600 cash, a trophy, and a trip to Las Vegas, NV to represent Minnesota at the National Grocers Association Best Bagger Championship in February 2026.
Best Bagger Contest
The Minnesota Grocers Association Best Bagger Cole Helgeson of Mackenthun’s Fine Foods, Waconia represented Minnesota and won fourth place at the National Grocers Association Best Bagger Championship in Las Vegas, NV.
8th Annual
Bipartisan Bag-Off
In a tight competition, this year’s Bipartisan Bag-Off winner was Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson. He was presented a trophy and $1,000 to donate to a food charity of his choice within his district.
MGA Legislator of the Year
The Minnesota Grocers Association acknowledges a lawmaker demonstrating outstanding commitment to the food industry each year. The 2025 MGA Legislator of the Year award went to Representative Liz Reyer for her leadership as the Chief House author of the MGA’s Carts to Careers bill.
