MGA Celebrates at its Annual Industry Connects Lunch

The Minnesota Grocers Association (MGA) hosted its annual Industry Connects Luncheon on Tuesday, April 16 at the DoubleTree in Bloomington, MN.  This event showcases the depth of participation, from farm to fork, across the entire state and highlights the Minnesota food industry’s positive impact on our communities. The afternoon showcases the pride and tremendous accomplishments of those in the Minnesota food industry and was attended by more than 200 prominent industry members.

The 2019 MGA Best in Class Award was presented to Bob Keyho of Post Consumer Brands, Lakeville. This award is presented annually to an individual based on positive sales growth through the development and execution of new programs, the ability to foster company engagement and provide an opportunity for employee personal and professional development, and demonstrated community support and involvement. Keyho exemplified these qualities.

The food industry of Minnesota partners to provide food to Minnesota tables. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s Minnesota Grown program announced the winners of its annual Retailer of the Year contest showcasing the importance of local partnerships. Commissioner Thom Petersen presented the awards. The five regional winners Minnesota Grown Retail of the Year winners are Chris’ Food Center – Sandstone; Hy-Vee – Rochester; Kowalski’s Market – White Bear Lake; Mackenthun’s Fine Foods – Waconia; Lunds & Byerlys – St. Cloud; and Festival Foods – Andover.

The Bag Hunger Campaign is a statewide campaign coordinated annually by the MGA that engages Minnesotans in the fight to bag hunger in their neighborhoods. The 2018 campaign donated more than   1 million meals across the state, and since 2008 has provided over 38 million meals to hungry families in Minnesota.

The Bag Hunger Campaign includes acknowledgment of partners who go above and beyond in their execution of the program. These companies receive awards and cash contributions to their local food charity partner. Congratulations to: Baxter Cub Foods, Brink’s Market, Chris’ Food Center, Coborn’s, Cub Foods, Faribault Foods, Inc., Hub Food Center, Hy-Vee, Jerry’s Foods, KEMPS, Knowlan’s/Festival Foods, Old Dutch Foods, Inc., Post Consumer Brands, Radermacher’s Fresh Market, Russ Davis Wholesale, and Teal’s Market.

The event was concluded with an engaging and lively presentation from Gen Z Guru, Jonah Stillman. Stillman graduated from high school in 2017 and is pursuing a life as an entrepreneur. He and a team of peers conducted one of the first national surveys about Gen Z’s workplace attitudes. The audience was provided insights on Gen Z and explained the mentality and beliefs of this upcoming generation.

“We are so proud to have the diverse community of the food industry in one room”, said Jamie Pfuhl, MGA President. “It’s great to acknowledge and celebrate our peers. Together we learn to be the best we can be for the communities we serve and the entire state of Minnesota.”
